2019 Building Material Trends

2019 Building Material Trends

Pipers is predicting personalised, comfort styles designed to nurture a highly entangled work/life world for 2019!

In the bathroom we expect to see matte black shower screens to remain trending for 2019. For higher spec designs we are seeing sophisticated frameless enclosures using floor to ceiling space; providing a clear cacoon like escape in the bathroom.

New industrial style Matte black tapware and hardware will continue to enter the market with newly designed towel rails and toilet accessories. Rimless toilets and easy to clean sanitary ware is also making waves!

While many are choosing tiled shower bases nowadays,  a slowing real-estate market may mean budget cuts. In response we may start to see again quicker and cheaper home renovations with simple shower bases and clean semi-frameless shower screens.

Slimline clean looks are always desired, however we are starting to see more personalised bold shapes and off centre design features such as off centre basins, oversized mirrors, different grout colours. These are just some of the smart design aspects transforming bathrooms with functional design!

The 2019 trends say this is going to be the year of wood flooring.

In the Australian timber flooring sector Pipers predict a higher interest in the long lasting Pipers Engineered Oak boards with new colours trending like our “Desert Sand.” The quality of this product is second to none, we see consumers demanding more value and quality for fixed floor coverings.

What’s driving this interest? Elfreda Boutros at Pipers International explains: ‘For a very long time people have believed that they only had the choice between cheap laminate flooring or extremely expensive solid wood floors. Now, more-and-more people are becoming aware that there is a third option that offers the best of both worlds – engineered timber flooring. This is where a thick strip of solid timber is bonded to a structured substrate to create a floorboard of excellent stability that is hard-wearing and can be resurfaced just like solid wood. The top layer is pre-finished, which means that it is already sanded and sealed. As soon as the floor has been laid, you can walk on it.’

Ms Boutros believes that awareness of this affordable option, has stimulated the creativity of designers and home renovators.

2019 Colour Trends for Kitchen Glass Splashbacks

We have seen an equal balance of clients choosing mirror options to bold and also subtle natural colours.  The palette is completely personalised, whether you want more soft and tranquil spaces with shades of misty grey, sage or light blues. Or warmer colours like dusky rose, pale apricot, fleshy nudes. Exotic colours look to be on the rise with rich pigmented shades including pomegranate pink, bold teal and deep forest green.

It looks like 2019 is going to be a interesting year for building materials and design in homes, watch this space!
